Querencia exhibit and New Mexico Poet Laureate, Levi Romero

Join local Santa Fe artists Yvette Serrano and Hernan Gomez Chavez as they showcase their public Querencia artwork. Querencia is an artwork, meant to look like a mobile home, a reference to the homes in which the artists grew up. The word is defined as the place where one was raised, a place where one feels bonds of affection and belonging—a sense of home. They will be exhibiting works created through the project,with the opportunity to participate the day of.

We are honored to have New Mexico Poet Laureate, architect, and lecturer Levi Romero who inspired this work, doing poetry readings for this event along with two other
local poets, Jessica Helen Lopez and Manuel Gonzáles, both are adjunct instructors in the Chicana and Chicano Studies department at UNM and previous Albuquerque Poet Laureates. . Artist and educator Kemely Gomez, along with Yvette Serrano, will also beholding a kite making workshop.

We will be screen printing, drawing and conversing with folks about home and belonging.

Venga a nuestro evento a reunirse con los artistas locales de Santa Fe, Yvette Serrano y Hernán Gómez Chávez. Exhibiran su obra de arte pública sobre Querencia. Querencia es una obra de arte, que se parece a una traila, una referencia a las casas en las que crecieron los artistas. La palabra se define como el lugar donde uno se crió, un lugar donde uno siente lazos de afecto y pertenencia – un sentido de hogar. Estarán exhibiendo obras creadas a través del proyecto, con la oportunidad de que personas puedan participar durante ese dia.

Nos sentimos honrados de tener al poeta laureado, arquitecto y profesor de NuevoMéxico, Levi Romero, quien inspiró esta obra, leyendo lecturas de poesía para este evento junto con otros dos poetas locales, Jessica Helen Lopez y Manuel Gonazáles. La artista y maestra Kemely Gomez, junto con Yvette Serrano, realizarán un taller de fabricación de papalotes.

Estaremos imprimiendo, dibujando y conversando con la gente sobre el hogar y la pertenencia.
