  • “Saving Family Memories” by Louise Farmer Smith
  • Saturday, March 11, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
  • Main Library Community Room

Tell your family’s story and get it in writing before it’s lost to make a written legacy for your loved ones. This lecture features the use of techniques from fiction writers to make your story compelling and what to do with those greeting cards, letters, old newspaper clippings, and year-books.

Louise Farmer Smith, a PEN/New England Discovery, has taught English, trained as a family therapist, and worked in a U.S. Congressman’s office. She is the author of One Hundred Years of Marriage, Cadillac, Oklahoma, and The Woman Without a Voice.

  • “New Mexico’s Stormy History” by Elmer Maestas
  • Sunday, March 26, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
  • Main Library Community Room

Elmer Maestas used resources available at the Santa Fe Public Library, the New Mexico State Archives, the Fray Angelico Chavez History Library, and Albuquerque’s Special Collections and Genealogy Libraries to research his family lineage and then write his recently published book, New Mexico’s Stormy History: True Stories of Early Spanish Colonial Settlers and the Mestas/Maestas families. Elmer, a 10th generation Spanish descendant, weaves a methodical portrait of his family throughout New Mexico’s turbulent past.

  • “The Basic Genealogy Checklist” by Henrietta Christmas and Paul Rhetts
  • Sunday, April 30, 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Main Library Community Room

Authors Henrietta Christmas and Paul Rhetts present their book, The Basic Genealogy Checklist to share tips and tactics to help researchers of all experience levels find: Who your ancestors really were; where your ancestors came from; how they got to this country; the truth about your “family stories” and what is fact and what is myth in your family’s past.
