Faces in the Sky – the Art of David Wagner

Posted on

Southside Branch Library welcomes you to our first art exhibit of 2022, Faces in the Sky, an exhibition of art kites by public artist David Wagner.  The show will be on view through the month of January.

David Wagner grew up in South Dakota and has lived in Santa Fe for many years.  His main influence is the Western sky.  He works primarily in large-scale glass and steel, but also in aerial mediums with pieces capable of flight.  The exhibition features kites from two of the artist’s series: 1) The Face Series – art kites that position intimate portraits in the sky, inspired by classic Japanese Edo kites and 2) The Frustrated Flight Series– complex collages with text that chronicle our fascination with human flight and the struggles encountered on the way to its ultimate achievement.  These works are functional and fly extremely well, capable of flying in relatively light winds due to their large sail area and design.

Kites are displayed in both the main lobby and the Children’s Room.  Masks are required.
