We are temporarily taking new library card applications for residents to access our digital resources or order curbside pickup of physical materials while our buildings remain closed. Please send us your full name, date of birth, address within Santa Fe County, phone number, email address, and which library (Main, La Farge, Southside) you’d like to pick up your card from to email@example.com and we’ll message your card number back to you as soon as possible.
Your card may be picked up with photo ID during Curbside Pickup hours at the library of your choice. If you signed up for a new card through email prior to July 24, 2020 and cannot pickup your card at Main, please call 955-6785 let us know which branch is more convenient for you.
To register for a library card you must live, work, or go to school in the City of Santa Fe or Santa Fe County. Fill out an application at the Circulation desk and show a picture ID and proof of mailing address. Children under the age of 13 need a parent’s or guardian’s signature to get a card. A person with a library card issued by any other public library in New Mexico is eligible to receive a Santa Fe Public Library card. You can also print out a Library Card Application Form from the list below. Please fill it out and bring to any library branch with picture ID and proof of mailing address to get a card.

Loan Periods and Item Limits

Borrowing privileges will be suspended with any item more than 14 days overdue. Don’t forget, you can review your checkouts, due dates and holds by logging on to your library account.
If you receive postcard notifications of holds that have arrived at the library, or when you have an overdue item, please switch to e-mail or telephone.
The library does not charge fines for overdue items. Patrons will be blocked from checking out other items if any item becomes 14 days overdue.
A bill is mailed to patrons via United States mail for any item that is 30 days or more overdue. The bill will include an estimated replacement cost.
The Library works to serve our users. When materials are long overdue, the items are not available for other patrons to check out. The Library does not have a large enough budget to be able to purchase extra copies of items that are long overdue. We appreciate your working with us to get books and other materials back in a timely manner.
You may renew online by logging on to your record, by touch-tone phone at (505) 955-6987, or in person at any Santa Fe Public Library location. Items may be renewed two times. Items with holds cannot be renewed. Renewals are allowed on overdue items within the first 14 days of the overdue process.
Library materials may be returned to any Santa Fe Public Library location. There are book drops at each library for returns after-hours. We do not accept returns for other libraries.
