Join graphic novelist Melanie Gillman for a presentation followed by a Q&A and a hands-on comics drawing activity. Open to all skill levels!  Please have on hand basic drawing supplies, like paper and pencils, or a tablet.

Melanie Gillman is a cartoonist who specializes in LGBTQ books for kids and teens.

They are the creator of the webcomic and graphic novel As the Crow Flies, published in 2017 by Iron Circus Comics, and winner of the 2018 Stonewall Honor Award. Their newest book, Stage Dreams, was published by Lerner/Graphic Universe in 2019. They are also a senior lecturer in the Comics MFA Program at the California College of the Arts.

Gillman was co-editor with and a contributor to The Other Side, an anthology of 19 queer paranormal romance comics published in 2016. In 2016, they began writing an ongoing Steven Universe comics series for Boom! Studios.

Gillman lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Gillman is non-binary and uses the gender-neutral pronouns they and their.
